My introduction to Latin America was as a Peace Corps volunteer in Bolivia (1968-71), an experience I never completely washed off. I trained as a historian (PhD 1981), but was never gainfully employed as one. Instead, from 1984-2009 I was Latin American Librarian at Cornell University, and from 2009-2014 Bibliographer and, later, Associate Director, at the Benson Latin American Collection. I’m committed to social justice, and I see its need most clearly in Latin America.
